We bought a custom play structure for our backyard a couple of years ago but never found the time to install it. Since Taylor’s Home Renovation had already done amazing work on our home—like updating our deck and installing new tile flooring—I reached out again. Within days, they got started and had everything completed shortly after spring break. Our kids have been loving it ever since! We really enjoy working with Taylor’s team and will definitely call them again soon.
Taylor’s Home Renovation did everything they promised—on time and with great attention to detail. I highly recommend them for any of your home renovation needs. They also handled some repairs on my roof and exceeded expectations. Definitely a reliable team you can trust for quality work.
In August 2025, I hired Taylor’s Renovation to convert my screen porch into a four season room. The owner, John Taylor, seemed to be a very friendly guy and was very responsive when my husband and I would reach out about the job. His bid came in much lower than other companies in the area. It was a combination of that and his ability to being the job quickly that made us choose his company. I appreciated that he and his team would show up early in the morning and would work long days. We had a setback that was entirely not his company‘s fault. Right off the bat he found that our existing deck couldn’t support the weight of the windows I wanted. This cost us 8000 additional dollars. They tore the structure down to nothing and rebuilt from the ground up. There were a few times that we experienced a delay in progress and we were told that that was due to code enforcement. There was a need for code to come out and inspect multiple times along the way. We were never home to meet code, but we’re told that they had come and given the approvals every step of the way. We also had signed an itemized quote that included permits. We really didn’t see any red flags until one day when our windows were being installed. We had originally wanted Anderson windows that cost $500 a piece. John Taylor told us that those windows were on backorder but he was able to find nearly identical ones that were within a few dollars difference in cost. We went with those windows and same with our door because we wanted to keep it at the same price. My husband was working from home when they pulled the windows from the box to install them. He scanned the sku and found that the windows they were installing for half the price. When we brought this up to John Taylor, he said that the reason they cost so much is because he also added a warranty to each of the windows. My husband then called Home Depot, where he had purchased the windows and was told that they do not offer a warranty. In efforts to make things right, John Taylor said he would insulate our roof to cover the cost that we lost with the windows and door. His crew finished the job early, which we were thrilled about. They had the entire job done mid November. We paid our final payments of the $33,000 and we amicably parted ways. In February, we returned from a weekend away and found that our four season porch was completely flooded. We had experienced an ice dam. The first person we called was John Taylor, and he sent a guy out to clear off our roof in preparation of the insurance inspector coming out to look for the leak source. Unfortunately, his guy used an ice chipper on our metal roof and punctured many holes all over the roof. Our roof is now a total loss in the findings from the insurance company is that when the roof was lifted to install the insulation, the roof was not correctly secured back into place. There were many findings that pointed to poor workmanship, so we were encouraged by our insurance company to file against his Insurance for poor workmanship. His insurance company accepted liability for the pro workmanship claim but he unfortunately is only covered for $10,000 in errors and omissions. When we originally hired him, we just saw that his website said that he was fully insured so we figured that he was insured for at least 1 million. Upon hiring a new contractor to fix our addition, they look to see what permits had been pulled and found that none had been pulled. Code enforcement paid a visit to our home and verified that no permits had been pulled in upon inspection found that nothing had been done properly. We were given a demand letter by Lewiston code enforcement to tear down the structure. The code officer was so kind and felt so terrible for all that we had gone through, he took a deeper dive into the structure to see if there was anything that could be done. This is the response we received, “Unfortunately, almost nothing that guy did was correct. You don’t have proper frost protection for your posts, you don’t have the proper attachments for your posts, the beams were not built correctly, etc. You may be able to salvage some of the materials, but it needs to be a total rebuild“. We are now in a position where we were able to recover some majority of the money we put into building the structure but now we are having to start a $12,000 demo, cannot afford to rebuild the structure, and need a new roof. This was a very unfortunate situation for us and I’m hoping that by sharing this, others will be spared the headache.
